Just Listen: Brooke Bentham – Perform For You

Brooke Bentham – Perform For You

Words by Gary Lambert

Brooke Bentham Perform For YouBrooke Bentham only came to my attention recently when she opened for Sam Fender on his recent tour, but the quality of her work in that set took me to searching out more tracks.  With perfect timing, Perform For You is her latest release, and has more than just an NE postcode in common with Wor Sam.  The track sees her vocal placed front and centre within the mix in clear, straight to the heart fashion, backed up by thick, whooshy guitar that normally would be nowhere near someone with such an accessible vocal.  It is smart and going to build friendships throughout music scenes.  In fact, the production is quite wonderful throughout the track, moving it in some parts closer to psych than pop.  I get the feeling there are big things lying in wait for Brooke.
