Just Listen: HAARM – Dahlia

HAARM DahliaHAARM

Dahlia

Words by Gary Lambert

Over the last decade we have seen a shift in pop music as we have left saccharine, brightly coloured, teen-and-younger focused pop acts behind.  Instead we have icons like Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, and Dua Lipa to name but three creating wonderful music that appeal to all age groups whilst simultaneously getting critical acclaim too.  Dahlia by HAARM follows on from such artists as it is obviously and unashamedly a pop song despite the style and structure you would associate from more experimental genres and artists.

One of the key factors in making Dahlia feel so comfortable and pleasurable to listen to is the influence of great pop songs which seem to wave hello.  As I listen I get hints of Like A Prayer (Madonna), Sweet Harmony (The Beloved), and Porcelain (Moby) like a sommelier would pick out flavours in wine.  It’s a heady mix that acts as a joyous musical treat.
