JUST LISTEN: Charlie Cunningham – Climb

Charlie Cunningham – Climb

Words: Nick Bewes

There’s something very calming about listening to Charlie Cunningham’s music. It just floats over you like waves, relaxing you and putting you at ease.

His two albums to date 2017’s Lines & 2019’s Permanent Way gathered good reviews and he’s getting ready to release a new EP which is called Pieces.

The first track released from the EP was called All This and it was a sparse piano led track, whereas this new track, Climb, featuring recent tour mate Sophie Jamieson, is more reminisecent of Charlie’s previous material, which features ‘futtering, finger picked melodies’ according to the press release and I agree about.

It’s a beautiful piece of music, with their voices blending together amazingly well. To my ears, it’s a little bit like early Ben Howard and that’s a good thing.
