Just Listen: MarthaGunn – Honest

Just Listen: MarthaGunn

Honest

Words: Amy Butcher

I’ve been a big fan of MarthaGunn over the last couple of years, the 70s psychedelic inspired indie rock five-piece have had me addicted to their music since I first heard them live. Following the recent single release of Nowhere To Run at the end of last year, I’d been intrigued to see what would be brought into 2021 and where their sound would go.

Honest shocks and surprises with every listen, and I have had it on repeat for quite some time now. With Abi Gunning’s vocals echoing instantly on the track to a haunting piano melody, you’re already consumed in the hard-hitting atmosphere the song creates. It’s the Edge of Seventeen-esque chorus filled with repetitive frantic drum patterns and considered guitar melodies, that leaves you wanting more once the 3 and half minutes are over.

I’d thoroughly consider listening to MarthaGunn if you haven’t already!
