JUST LISTEN: jak Ivr – Still
jak Ivr – Still
Words: Sammy Sadler
When the news broke on Facebook that Llovers were disbanding, I was gutted. I’d become somewhat of a big fan having seen the indie-pop Teessiders live numerous times and I even own two of their band t-shirts. Doesn’t get much more serious than that.
Although you can often catch me remembering the four-piece through my various North East Spotify playlists, I was in need of a new fix. So thank god for this new release from former Llovers frontman, jak Ivr.
Taking the plunge into his solo career with the release of Still, jak Ivr retains the sunshine dream-pop that I loved so much with Llovers and he’s added even more anthemic qualities.
Opening with a europhic instrumental led with dramatic drum loops, Still soon explodes into a whimsical arrangement that balances the line of indie and shoegaze pop before boasting a HUGE chorus. Although Still explores themes of self-doubt, it’s very much showcased against an uplifting backdrop that fills you with hope in these dark lockdown times.
Honestly, I’m obsessed. One of my favourite tracks of this year so far and it’s got me even more desperate to hit live shows again.
