Just Listen: Mystery Jets – The World is Overtaking Me

Mystery Jets

Words: Gary Lambert

image002If you are a fan of the art form that is the music video, then this Just Listen is not for you.The accompanying video on VEVO is basically a screensaver showing the curve of the earth, happily hinting at The Curve of the Earth the new album from Mystery Jets. We are all about the music today though, so let’s get to that.

This electro indie song tells of life going quicker than the singer seems to live at thus bypassing him in a similar way to Brian Wilson’s heartbreaking I Just Wasn’t Made For These Times. Whilst distinctly a Mystery Jets song in their not-quite- as-uplifting as you would expect style, there is more than a hint of the Gary Numan to this. The regular du-duh keyboard refrain suggests a watered down version of Are Friends Electric’s regular musical motif.

This is not going to change the world and I do not think it will change the lives of Mystery Jets, but it is rather ace and enjoyable.
