Dantevilles
Words: Gary Lambert
As Stockport slowly turns into the northern powerhouse of up-and-coming guitar music, the latest act to start their spring is Dantevilles. If you are expecting a Blossoms sequel though I am glad to say that you are going to be disappointed. Dantevilles have a distinctly northern England sound, but with this release Graffiti they allow their guitars to jangle like the song was written in a student bedsit in 1984, and the vocal track forces smiles whether you want to or not sounding like Ian McCullough’s happy and cheerful long lost brother. At less than three minutes long too, there is an air of vitality and pleasure to the song too. It isn’t a call to arms, grab you by the throat piece, instead it makes you smile and after a few listens sing along with it. And there’s nothing at all wrong with that.
