Just Listen: Haarm – Valentine

Words: Nick Bewes

HAARM’s last single Endangered Species was a thing of beauty, one of my faves of the year so and the band return with a new track Valentine, which is more upbeat, like previous singles Foxglove and In the Wild than the subdued Species. Jen Davies shares vocal duties with Chris McIntosh and the latter’s voice sounding like the smooth tones of Jon Marsh from The Beloved. It’s a cracking track, with plenty of energy, with a catchy chorus. The band say it’s a classic unrequited love story. You can certainly see why they have opened their live sets supporting Bloc Party and their appearance at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend. If you missed those dates, then fear not, HAARM will be playing at Liverpool’s The Magnet venue on October 13th.
