We’re Dead
Words: Rob Connor
As with their last single Hoo Haa, Francobollo’s new single We’re Dead is instantly identifiable and familiar as a ‘bollo track but has built on their winning formula to bring a more nuanced and commercial edge.
The track opens with a brilliant discordant riff that would not sound out of place on a Pixies album and gradually builds to a cacophonous climax of noise before falling back down to a brief yet wistful calm. These type of moments feature frequently in Francobollo’s music, each one is like a small battered music box, playing just after a storm has passed, a moment of calm to reflect on what you have just witnessed and to allow you to catch your breath at what is to come. In the case of “We’re Dead”, the pause is a preface to a summery coda which will have gig venues bouncing up and down the country.
If Francobollo are not already on your radar, make this the moment you introduce your ears to this beautifully constructed piece of social commentary. “We’re Dead”, is another fine example of a band that still have much to give and kill it every time.
