Just Listen: Bessie Turner – Nino

Bessie Turner – Nino

Words: Rachel Allen

Bessie Turner has a distinct ability to weave an emotional story within a catchy slightly gritty guitar flavour layered in a slightly sweet vocal.

Slightly but not slight, her recent track ‘Nino’ is flavoured in just this way, sprinkled with the magic of Richard Woodcraft, who won a grammy for his work on ‪Radiohead‬’s ‘In Rainbows’.

Bessie’s exploration of anxiety in all its perils and subject matters is tackled with all the intelligence and reality you would expect from her songs. She underpins these concepts with rolling guitar riffs and ‘in your head’ vocal melody lines that just won’t leave you.

Her ultimate point surrounding anxiety regards having those souls around to hold and help at the right time, and the ebb and flow of this song captures just that.
