Just Listen: The Howl and The Hum – Human Contact
The Howl and The Hum – Human Contact
Words: Sammy Sadler
I’ve made no secret of my love for The Howl and The Hum so naturally the news of their latest single has had me squealing with excitement like the little fangirl I am.
Opening on a futuristic dull drone, Human Contact evolves into something a bit different to what we’re used to from the York quartet but I’m loving it. As someone who regularly plays Hall of Fame, Portrait I and Godmanchester Chinese Bridge on repeat excessively, I can comfortably say I’ve become quite familiar with the intricate details that The Howl and The Hum often showcase but Human Contact does throw a bit of a curveball.
Sam Griffiths powerful vocals remain ever present yet there is an enhanced doom and gloom to this disco track that has been playfully hinted at in the band’s previous work. Experimental, dark and mysterious, Human Contact demonstrates exactly what I love about The Howl and The Hum whilst introducing that they can delve even deeper into eerie indie disco.
If you haven’t yet caught this young band live, I urge you to by the end of this year! Luckily they’ve got some dates coming up and tickets are available here. See you down the front?
