Just Listen: Zuzu – Skin and Bone
Zuzu
Skin and Bone
Words by Gary Lambert
Liverpool’s emo-pop princess Zuzu seems to be at it again with yet another wonderful pop song that combines the emotional nudity of one of my counselling sessions with the singalong fun of a kitchen disco.
In comparison to her other output, on the first listen it seems as though Zuzu has stepped away from pop tunes such is the height her singing is placed in the mix, but on repeated listens, and it deserves repeated listeners, you notice that there is a curious cocktail of Taylor Swift and Enya underpinning her words. In fact, Skin and Bones is the “Che Guevara and Debussy to a disco beat” that Pet Shop Boys became legendary for.
There is no hiding from Skin and Bone, and because of that I couldn’t recommend it higher.
