JUST LISTEN: Low Hummer – The Real Thing

Low Hummer – The Real Thing

Words: Jim Mumby

Synth-driven Low Hummer continue their forays into highly danceable electronic infused post-punk and under the production talents of Matt Peel, are rewarded with a third release that bolsters their presence amongst a wave of new artists surging from the Humber region.

You’d be forgiven for assuming their on-stage antics to be full of angry contortions based solely on the intense percussion, bleak vocals and overdriven guitar interludes. Contrarily, they carry an almost Germanic calmness and stylish demeanour, focused on technical musicianship, precision and vocal delivery with the intent to engage audiences and broadcast their continued centrism on social disillusionment.

Glitchy and artcore are their homages to low-fi 80’s VHS, evident on their music ’video’, befitting the sequenced nature of their sound, although their seemingly lacklustre stances and almost bored expressions counterpoint the rubber-ball energy of The Real Thing that will have you rebounding off the walls!
