JUST LISTEN: The Lottery Winners – The Meaning Of Life

The Lottery Winners – The Meaning Of Life

Words: Jim Mumby

Leigh’s indie-pop flag wavers The Lottery Winners let loose a title track that evokes their much less optimistic perspective on life, than say the jazz-hop rhymes of Soul II Soul’s free spirited vision three decades ago.

The times they have changed perhaps, however the steadfast hammer-on-anvil pounding of the kick and snare alongside the clean vocals, hone a message that the hum-drum repeat pattern of life isn’t all bad with a little acceptance and gratitude for where you came from and what you have.

A timely release then with this happy-sad pop stomp suited to a youthful generation with bleaker visions than Jazzy-B, but has just enough merriment in the uplifting keyboard melodies and dreamy sitar sounding guitars to make this a summertime smash!
