JUST LISTEN: ZUZU – MY OLD LIFE

Zuzu

My Old Life

Words by Gary Lambert

Wow! is the first thing that comes to mind after listening to Zuzu‘s latest single from her forthcoming debut album, Queensway Tunnel. All the old Zuzu touchstones are there, but this is a bold move into for me a more expansive sound. My Old Life reminds me of Ode to Billie Joe by Bobbie Gentry if it was made by Taylor Swift – and I’m struggling to think of any more praise I could heap on a song.

Underpining all the ambition and heart within the track is Zuzu‘s wonderful, melodic scouse accent. The rhyming couplets around the Mersey hit with perfection. On a personal level, the Mersey is where I head to whenever my emotions need calming down, so I feel seen.

Zuzu headlines FestEvol at Future Yard this weekend. They might have a ticket or two left, if they do buy them here.
