JUST LISTEN: KATY ALEX – SUCKER FOR LOVE

Katy Alex

Sucker For Love

Words by Gary Lambert

One of my favourite thing in the world is watching pop music at festivals. In bygone years they were an afternoon treat for the kids, but now they are rightly given the respect they deserve for the effort and craft that goes into making pop songs and can rightly be seen at the top of a bill. Sucker For Love by Katy Alex makes me want to watch it being performed on a big stage.

There’s something in the joyful beats and Katy’s geographically-neutral vocal that makes me feel like there should be some slick backing dancer choreography to go with it, and with me throwing strange shapes much further back in the field.

If Katy’s Soundcloud mixtape sounded like a modern version of Kylie made in a bedroom, there’s no lo-fi quirkiness to Sucker For Love. This track sounds bold and summery, made to keep you dancing whether you’re in a bar, a field or your kitchen.
