FESTIVAL VIBES: VOODOOS
Voodoos
Words by Gary Lambert
If fuzzy indie pop is your cup of tea, then at Liverpool Sound City you should get along to watch Voodoos. They’ve got an incredibly uplifting way with music that is reminiscent of Vistas’ ability to make music fans smile, and fresh from playing at the incredible TRNSMT festival it should be one of the live sets which people lie about in years to come to say they were squeezed into the basement of The Shipping Forecast to catch them when actually they’d made the mistake of having a cheap pizza instead.
Popped Music: How are Voodoos doing? Voodoos: Everyone is feeling good because the return of live music is here and we can get back to playing live again.
What are you looking forward to about playing Sound City? We all love going down to Liverpool its one of our favourite cities in the UK. Also this is our first time playing there so that in itself is massive for us.
Will you have any new tracks to play at Sound City? We will be playing one unreleased song that we recently recorded actually in Liverpool.
What makes festival season so important to Voodoos? I feel like it is so important to us because we getting the chance to play in front of a new audience. Hopefully we will turn that audience into new fans as a result.
What are your favourite memories of festivals? As a band it has to be playing TRNSMT which was a moment we had been waiting for ever since we started; to play a festival in our home town was a goal that we set ourselves and it was everything we wanted it to be. As a fan I have to say seeing Arctic Monkeys in Primavera was a special day because it was one of our favourite bands and it was an ace European festival.
When you’re in the van on tour who is in charge of the music? We all take our turn usually, but if we are coming off the back of a good gig and we have a buzz about us Scoobs will put the Vengaboys on and we will be bouncing all the way back to Scotland.
Are you playing any more gigs this year? We have live at Leeds coming up coming up in October and we are looking to get a few more shows booked for the coming months.
