Just Listen: Shvllows – Zurich

Words: Gary Hughes

shallowsFour blokes, each of them with decent hair, does not necessarily make a band, but it is usually a decent start. And Shvllows follow up the strong hair with similarly strong music. Shvllows say they are influenced by the likes of Everything Everything, Prides, 1975 on their website, and that is apparent in this song. Chvrchs too I’d say.

Zurich is a song with an insistent, building beat and rhythm; based around uplifting synth melodies punctuated with a big, meandering 80’s style film/TV style guitar solo. In essence, very on message. The chorus is delivered with a falsetto, and the song fades away nicely. A little bit cool and aloof, but better for it.
