Just Listen: The Insomniac Project – Give U

The Insomniac Project

Words: Gary Feeney

Since The Insomniac Project first appeared on these pages with their brilliant single, Vacillation, the Glaswegian outfit have went relatively quiet, focussing their energies on writing and recording new songs with only the odd foray into the live arena during their hibernation.

Following a recent appearance at ButeFest, however, the band have announced a couple of Glasgow shows to mark their return along with new single Give U, which suggests they have been using their time very wisely indeed over the last year or so. Although carrying on their trademark disco vibes, Give U is a more overtly poppy affair than Vacillation with its synth-backed verses bursting into rousing choruses with the outstanding harmonies between Andrew Butler and Deborah Lang to the fore throughout. Whilst the track displays a remarkable musical depth and complexity, Give U never feel likes like another other than an instantly engaging, breezy, summer anthem which is sure to lodge itself in your head from the first listen.
