Just Listen – Gen and The Degenerates – Weatherman

Gen and The Degenerates are without doubt one of the most formidable up and coming live acts around, but with this release they grab their usual blood and thunder punk rock and distill it into something far more heady. The change in Gen’s vocal was the first thing I noticed. Previously she had gone wild and raw, but there seems to be that confidence has replaced bravado as the listener is buried in a whisky and heartbreak sensuality. The band too take the pace down and create the image of rainfall outside a lonely bar to accompany Gen. The result is a bluesy number that radiates emotion. There is still time for GatD to unleash the beast, but it is in the manner of a swirling set finisher rather than a moshpit mobiliser.

I think this song is gorgeous and definitely not degenerate.
