Just Listen: Stanleys – Measured in Gold

Measured in Gold

Words by Gary Lambert

Once again with Measured in Gold Stanleys, these proper nice lads from Wigan, have managed to hit the bullseye.  Following on with the motif of A Better Life with an unassuming, sweet and completely loveable slice of guitar pop.

It is quite special how the music of Stanleys grabs the attention without being designed as an obvious piece of wide appeal indie music.  There are no “hands in the air chorus” moments, or “this is the drum and bass dance bit”, and best of all there is no phoney, over-emphasised northern accent.  It’s almost like the song has been written on the basis of it is what the band want to hear rather than what their management think will sell.  It happens to be what I want to hear too.

I love how Measured in Gold makes me feel happy listening to it.  It’s the sound of beer gardens and happiness.  Get on it.  Make Stanleys your next favourite big band.
